Key Objectives
The key objectives of the GIOA are:
- To secure commitment from the State Government for the development of the Mid West iron ore industry
- Achieve Government public policy settings that:
- Provide for the expansion of the iron ore capacity of the Geraldton Port and associated rail infrastructure;
- Facilitate the timely development of the Oakajee Port and associated rail and other infrastructure;
- Proactively and positively address environmental requirements;
- Facilitate the growth of the industry, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, environmental approvals and government regulation; and
- Promote the economic diversity a Mid West iron ore province will deliver to the local region and State
- Raise awareness of the GIOA’s and member companies commitment to make a meaningful contribution to vocational education and training including employment opportunities for local Mid West residents
- Promote ongoing commitment to train and employ indigenous Australians
- Work with member companies to identify and create opportunities to further the development of the industry
- Enhance the standing and reputation of the industry and by doing so provide the industry with an opportunity to influence public policy and debate
- Promote the industry in a way that demonstrates the industry’s and the region’s success are intrinsically interwoven
- Communicate with a single voice wherever possible on issues affecting the iron ore industry in the Mid West region of WA
- Promote points of common interest including - GIOA members as safe, profitable, innovative, environmentally and socially responsible, valued by the community and tuned to its needs and expectations.
